General Herkimer Elementary is proud to showcase some Utica Gems in Mrs. Johnston's 4th grade class!
Three of Mrs. Johnston's 4th grade students have qualified for the “First in Math” New York Statewide Mathematics Tournament in Albany, New York on Saturday May 30th.
Ali Alblay, Habibah Binti Hassan Ali, and Madina Nar, took 1st place in the Regional Virtual Competition held in March! Mrs. Johnston's class competed individually along with all UCSD Schools, schools in the surrounding districts including: New Harford, Waterville, Central Valley; in addition with Schools Statewide. These 3 General Herkimer students will represent our District and surrounding Districts at the Tournament!
Mrs. Johnston enrolled her class in the” First in Math” program in January, with 6 students wanting to train for the March competition. They trained with her afterschool and in class. Mrs. Johnston’s entire class began thriving and building confidence in Math as they began using the program.
“It’s a joy to have my students ask to do” First in Math” when they have free time. Math has become fun and exciting as they learn, earning stickers and moving through the Wall of Fame levels.”
Let's wish Ali, Habibah, Medina and Mrs. Johnston luck as they travel to Albany to compete against other 4th grade teams from Rochester, North Merrick, Ossing, Half Hollow Hills and 4 schools from NYC on Saturday, May 31st.
Ali, Habibah, and Medina the Utica City School District is so proud of each of you!
